Acupuncture is an ancient treatment method that involves inserting extremely fine needles into acupuncture points or specific spots relating to the body’s energy meridians. The needles may be stimulated with heat or electric current to enhance the therapeutic effect.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, an energy called Qi flows through the body, nourishing every cell and every organ. Without Qi, there is no life, and when Qi is in balance, a person is healthy. It is when Qi becomes excessive, depleted or stuck that illness arises. Acupuncture brings about health and balance by influencing the flow of energy in the body.
Trigger Point Injections is a treatment for patients with chronic pain that is associated with tender areas, or knots in the muscle tissue called “trigger points”. Pain associated with trigger points is often referred to as myofascial pain.
After specific trigger points are identified on physical examination, they are needled to elicit a twitch response, which inactivates the trigger point and eliminates myofascial pain.
Patients that respond to this treatment usually do experience some benefit from the first injections, although the benefits tend to be cumulative with repeated injections and a course of 4-8 treatments is usually necessary to eliminate most trigger points.
